Qcells technology

We continuously develop our technology

Our solar modules are designed to deliver high performance and efficiency. We have developed solutions to address technical challenges such as hot spots and potential-induced degradation (PID), contributing to reliable and efficient solar power generation.

Trust Qcells solar technology

  • Qcells solar technology is developed at our Technology & Innovation site in Bitterfeld-Wolfen, Germany.
  • Qcells has developed technologies designed to address technical challenges such as potential-induced degradation (PID) and hot spots.
  • In an industry study conducted by Fraunhofer CSP, 9 out of 13 tested modules from different manufacturers showed performance losses in the PID test, with an average performance loss of 56%. Qcells modules tested in the study retained their measured performance after the test.
  • With Q.ANTUM technology, Qcells has developed a cell technology designed to support high performance and efficient solar power generation.

Q.ANTUM NEO Technology

Qcells’ innovative N-type technology powering Q.TRON

Qcells has contributed to the development and commercialisation of PERC technology and further developed its proprietary Q.ANTUM Technology by combining PERC with Yield Security features. Q.ANTUM technology subsequently evolved into Q.ANTUM DUO with half-cell technology and Q.ANTUM DUO Z with Zero-Gap technology.

Q.ANTUM NEO Technology combines N-type cell technology with Advanced Yield Security features and Qcells’ Quality Controlled PV (QCPV) testing programme. It is designed to support high module performance, efficiency and long-term reliability.

Hot-Spot Protect

Qcells’ Hot-Spot Protect quality assurance process is designed to reduce the risk of hot spots in solar cells and modules. Hot spots can cause localised heating and, in rare cases, contribute to module damage. Hot-Spot Protect includes measures intended to identify and minimise this risk during production.

Anti PID / Anti LID

Designed to support long-term performance

Potential-induced degradation (PID) can reduce module performance under certain operating conditions. Qcells Anti PID technology is designed to reduce the risk of PID-related performance losses.

TRA.Q

Traceable Quality for Qcells solar cells

With our patented Traceable Quality (Tra.Q™) marking technology, individual Qcells solar cells can be identified and traced throughout the production process.

R&D history

Our Technology & Innovation headquarters in Thalheim, Germany, combines facilities for research and development, pilot projects and testing. This enables us to develop new solar technologies, products and production processes.

The close connection between research, testing and pilot production supports the transfer of technological developments into series production. Examples include the development of 6-inch solar cells, fully squared monocrystalline solar cells and Q.ANTUM cell technology.

A global R&D network

We continuously explore new methods and technologies to further develop our solar products and manufacturing processes.

More than 400 scientists across Germany, China, Korea and Malaysia work on research and development activities aimed at improving our products and production methods.

At our R&D centres in Germany, Korea, China and Malaysia, technologists, scientists and engineers work together with equipment manufacturers to develop and implement new production technologies, processes and quality control methods.
